  • Chicken-of-the-Woods

    (Laetiporus sulphureus) Also known as "Sulphur Shelf," this is a favorite among many as a prized gourmet mushroom. It can be cultivated easily on stumps and buried logs. Fruits late spring and summer.

  • Blue Oyster

    (Pleurotus ostreatus) Our favorite & most productive oyster. This lovely strain of tree oyster from Bratislava, Slovakia will fruit prolifically on just about any wood or straw based substrate. Color ranges from deep blue to light gray depending on temperature. An exceptionally productive and delicious cool weather strain. Fruits fall, winter and spring.

  • Shiitake

    (Lentinula edodes) A very tolerant and vigorous strain of the prized shiitake mushroom, known for its medicinal and culinary uses.. Excellent for fruiting on logs, stumps or in sawdust. Eats logs and sawdust like nothing you have ever seen. Fruits spring, summer and fall.

  • Reishi

    (Ganoderma lucidum) The Red Reishi has been used for centuries as medicine. Believed to stimulate the immune system and fight cancer. The are slower to fruit, but great for log culture.Fruits in the spring, summer and fall.

  • Pearl Oyster

    (Pleurotus ostreatus) Pearl Oysters are delicious and used extensively in gourmet cooking. The fruit extensively in the spring and fall.

    Produces beautiful white clusters. This strain was developed by us from locally wild harvested mushrooms.


  • Lions Mane

    (Hericium erinaceus) Lion's Mane has a delicate flavor and texture reminiscent of crab meat. It also contains novel chemicals that have been shown to stimulate nerve regrowth, making it an important medicine for those with nerve damage. Fruits spring, summer and fall.

  • Where do these plugs come from?

    We make our plug spawn ourselves in Marshall, NC. We maintain our own culture library and use these spores to inoculate wooden dowels.

  • Are they natural and free from toxins?

    Yes! We use no pesticides or toxic chemicals in any of our production techniques. All our mushrooms are grown with natural materials and Blue Ridge Mountain water.

    All our products are organic, not yet certified, we are working on our USDA Organic Certification.

  • Do you provide instructions with the plugs?

    The label on each bag provides a URL where customers can go to get detailed instructions on how to use the plugs including which wood to use, how to drill the holes and how to care for the logs.

  • Do you provide more detailed training for customers wishing to learn more about mushroom cultivation?

    Yes. We run weekend workshops to help people get started with growing mushrooms at home. These typically happen on our forest farm in Marshall, NC and we can do an afternoon workshop on log plugging at your location to help your customers get started.

  • How long can I keep the plugs?

    The plugs are inoculated with mycelium, a living organism. They need to be refrigerated and will last around 4 months. Each bag is marked with an expiration date.

All our fresh mushrooms and mushroom cultivation supplies are produced on our 30-acre organic and regenerative forest farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Everything we produce is in small batches and carefully monitored to ensure the highest quality.
